Way back in Feb at the BoatLife Show at the NEC we ordered the Whaly 455 with an electric outboard - the Navy 3HP equivalent. After a few delays it finally arrived on Wednesday. So having discovered some of the features of the boat we wanted to get the boat into the water and put it through its paces. We don't need high speed and we do need quietness, so we hope this boat will be ideal.
I was quite surprised that the motor did not need to be raised to get the boat into and out of the water but on this slipway the prop was well clear of the ground all the way in. The boat seemed to balance well and with its battery fully charged have a range of 75km on low power. The top speed is limited on the River Thames and the boat could quite happily reach the speed limit. As with all boats significantly more power is required to get the boat to go a little bit faster. We are not concerned with speed but with quietness and the engine is also silent.
Once out of the water we took the boat to the secure boat park we took measurement s of the boat for camera placement and then discovered that the tarpaulin was a little too small.
