My family were the duty Team. Mark was OOD running the Box, My wife, Ros, was helping with the flags. Paul was in the safetyboat being Safetyboat Qualified and I was the crew and part-time photographer.
The Safety boat was a few feet away whilst Keira had a few attempts at righting the boat.
Our safety boat duties started right away with one boat retiring, Another sailor hadn't been out for a couple of years and found the going quite tough. He did manage one of the most spectacular saves. Paul and I really thought that the boat was going to capsize but with an amazing recovery the boat continued afloat. It was a very close race until one of the lasers went aground at our favourite Weeping Willow where we came to grief last year. The Keira decided to capsize.
Here are a few pictures of Keira with her capsize to go with the video.
We picked up one of the neighbours grandchildren and took them out in the safety boat to cheer along Richard who was in third place ( At this point in time there were only three boats in the race and Richard was a little way behind. Richard had never had a crowd cheering him along before.
