Wednesdays on the Water. There was a stillness in the air. Hardly a hint of a breeze and this made the sailing very difficult for those out on the water.
There was lots of time in the early morning to contemplate, as the boat took 10 minutes or so to drift across the river and then another 10 minutes to drift back.
Sally had promised to join us on a Wednesday and came out to help us to improve our sailing, She took out a Wayfarer with John but with all her skills she couldn't do much without a breeze. But out on the river she did find some and took the boat up the river albeit rather slowly.
After a daring rescue of Lady Luck as she slipped away down stream, Guy fitted a motor to the boat and took it out for a spin. Derek took out Sponge and managed skilfully to take the boat up and down the river. We managed 5 boats out on the river and some good sailing despite not much wind. As for Paul and I we stayed in the safety boat keeping an eye on the sailors.
With all these hot, sunny, balmy summer days, it's time to think about the mid-summer relay race and come sign up for the winning team. Last year, we came a close third, but this year, with a new crew joining our loyal team from last year, we intend to smash the record and win by a significant margin. The format for this year’s races is not yet known, but we have our spies, and we are confident that with our secret weapon, we will steal the day. I have been acquiring crew with “The Press” but we need more crew especially of those types that can sail. So, please sharpen your cutlass so I can secure your place in the Black Pigs' return to victory.
