Beached

The fourth day of the RYA  level 2, 4 Day Course - We had Rowan as our instructor again. He was tasked with helping us get the spinnaker up and running, but the light winds represented a challenge.

More Practice

All our boxes had been ticked off. We wanted to get the spinnaker up on the water but the breeze was too light so we practiced our skills at improving our speed in the water and getting better tacks and gybes.

Journey Up

Up river to the Island  a mile and a half away. We started last but with our new found skills started hunting down each boat. The wayfarers were harder to catch and overtake having the same sail area as the Toura, but by the time we reached the island we were just in the lead. All the time we were going up river the wind was easing so it got harder and harder to overtake.

The Picnic

First there meant I was in charge of mooring the boats to the trees. This involved a lot of paddling.

The Return

The journey back was downwind. Rowan decided to join us on the Toura to help us deploy the spinnaker. What little wind had gone. We did try to get the spinnaker up but then the slight breeze died and we got nowhere. More of the Cadets laid on the toppers and swam. They made the most progress

Spinnakers and Prizes

The wind did pick up again. And we did manage to deploy the spinnaker for a hundred metres or so

More adventures continue as we enter a long distance race
