The Black Pig

Midsummer and the time for the annual relay race. This is a fun race and not knowing any better I decided to enter a team into the race. Now my idea of a fun race and deciding on being pirates as a theme for my team mean winning my any means necessary ...

Many thanks to Tony Ketley for taking many of the Photographs. Its hard to take photos when you are in the event.

The Recruitment drive

The best way I thought of raising awareness of the event and to recruit was to advertise so here are the advert to the club. Click on the Images to read the messages

The Rules

Four different boats, Two 2-handed a Wayfarer and a Merlin, 2 solo boats an OK and a topper. RS Zest were not allowed.

At least 1 Cadet, Each boat had a different mark to get to. The race officer of the day decided on a normal start rather than a Le Mans style, and proper roundings of the mark.

No Team was complete so we had to do lots of swapping of Cadets and crew until each Team had enough to do the race. We failed on coming up with a Merlin Rocket, so we had to use a slow wayfarer instead.

Martin had his own OK but Jonny and Emma, and Paul and Remy had not been out racing in a wayfarer before.

The Race

The weather was not that windy. The Black Pig crew decided to get the longest leg out of the way first, but a lack of wind meant that this first leg took 45 minutes to complete. While this happened the other teams doing the shorter legs over took us and they did their long legs in a fraction of a time we did ours, so with the other teams finished - the Spindrifters taking the first place we still had one more long leg to do with our not so speedy Wayfarer.

More fun as I take my first Start Sail Lesson
