News Year's Day Racing

It isn't often that we can do much sailing on the River during the winter. The Boxing Day Race was cancelled because of the Red Boards, but on New Year's Day, we were on yellow boards - with the stream decreasing, so a couple of boats took part in a race.

No Volunteers

No one had volunteered to do any duties for the New Year's Race, but we were down at the club anyway helping Guy with his boat "Lady Luck" We have some new varnish sheds at the club and Guy was fitting out the shed with a floor and benching to put the boat on. We were also down to look at our boat for its first fitting of a boat cover. (Still in the development stage.)
As luck would have it  a couple of other members came down Nick ( who had recently passed his  Safety Boat course and who was keen to put his new found skills into action) and Alastair who wanted to race his Phantom. So my wife and I manned the box, and Nick and AJ took out the safety boat and this meant that Paul and Guy could race Alastair. I would like to say

Making a Cover for the Whaly

The Whaly is covered with a couple of Tarpaulins, so my wife is setting to making a custom cover for the boat.
